Invitation to Implement Privacy Compliant Patron Initiated – ILL

November 1, 2016 in Interlibrary Loan, Resource Sharing

***Action may be required***

Did you know that it is now possible to offer your library users privacy compliant Patron-Initiated Interlibrary Loans (PI-ILL) via OutLook Online (OLOL)? The final piece of infrastructure needed to make privacy compliance possible was put in place this June, the culmination of a year’s worth of activities by the OLOL Admin Centre and the vendor. This feature is now available to all public and post-secondary libraries using OLOL for ILL management.

Privacy compliant PI-ILL means:

  • ILL requests initiated by your library patrons meet BC FOIPPA requirements for use of personal information such as name, email address, etc..
  • More efficient requesting, as ILL staff no longer have to manually enter requests into OLOL from paper forms or other ILL systems.
  • Highly customisable request forms, ensuring form meets your needs without confusing your patrons.
  • Patron-initiated requests are automatically placed in the OLOL Awaiting Approval queue, ready for ILL staff mediation.

If you already offer your users PI-ILL, then ensuring privacy compliance is simply a matter of developing your privacy disclaimer (300 characters max), then making a quick setting change in the OLOL admin interface. Contact the OLOL Admin Centre for guidance through this simple process.

If you aren’t already offering your users PI-ILL, but are interested in doing so, contact the OLOL Admin Centre for help and instructions on setting it up.
