The New Face of Public Libraries

Challenge – Libraries have seen a lot of change in the last few decades. The change is not just technological, it is in the way they provide services, why they provide it, and the types of resources they have built and deliver with their communities.

Solution – Having an innovative approach brings the librarian out of the library and to the people. A community lead service model puts the user at the centre of library service. Asking the users what they want and need from their library and adapting or creating new services to meet those needs. As the needs change, the library changes.

Result –All users can expect to get relevant, responsive, and individualized service. Children’s programming help to enhance language and literacy skills and social emotional development. Creating partnerships with strategic organizations help to facilitate this as well; Children’s librarians working with speech and language pathologists to provide services to children with oral language difficulties is a great example of this.
